A Reminder To More Experienced Users and Marketers

A Reminder To More Experienced Users and Marketers

As we continue to learn more about computers, marketing
and technology in general it gets very easy to lose touch
and forget about people at the beginning of their online careers.

Here is a real life example.

A few days ago I attended a free Internet commerce seminar.
I knew that although I have extensive knowledge about the Internet
and marketing in general I would probably still learn something.

The speaker started off by covering the basics such as what are
Google adwords, what is a payment processor, etc.. (yawn) but I hung in
there hoping to walk out with at least one jewel of knowledge.

Well by the end of the seminar I really did not learn anything new
    except one very powerful reminder.

Most people do not know as much as I do!

Now this is not meant to come across as arrogant. I am simply
saying that the more we learn, the less we tend to remember
what we did not know in the beginning.

While I never learned anything new about e-commerce, technology or
marketing I did learn that I have lost my perspective a bit.

For example, when the speaker explained why Billy was not only allowed
to have an Amazon link on his site but that he earned a commission
when his friends clicked through and made a purchase, the entire
    room was ooh-ing and ahh-ing.

In fact they were flat out AMAZED!

While I already knew all this stuff, I certainly needed to be reminded
that there are more (the majority of) surfers out there that do not
know even this most basic information.

So the next time you worry about competition or market saturation
just remember that you, yes YOU have something to offer to many people.

When you approach potential JV partners, especially offline they may
need to be educated a little. This should be your main purpose because
they will see you as an expert, even if you really are still learning yourself.

I know that this is an ancient post but, I have to say it is SO true!

As a newbie breaking into the scene, it always floors me when I get a product how many basics steps are left out, and how much is assumed the reader/imer already knows.... it is frustrating. Sometimes I want to create a product for newbies because I am STILL a newbie, and it is still a bit of a challenge. Therefore I would be less likely to skip steps. Hmmm.... : )

Anyone need someone to test their upcoming products to see if it really IS newbie friendly?

Keep up the great work, and I'll keep learning from the Masters...

    Hi Lauri,

Read this post just now, really impressed.

i remembered a famous IM phrase "Different between 'Scam' and 'Useful' product is the 'Pre-Knowledge' of 'User'"

My first day here and i really like the words going around i.e all about IM

    Peace.

You really have to look at the people coming into the
market rather than the people who are already here.

Don't make the same mistake most people do and
give up in a market because they think it is over-
    crowded.
When I count my blessings I count you twice.
