There's no question that more time to setup the tease, do the pre-selling, capture the leads, sort out the serious leads (into early notification lists or by having them interact with the pre-selling process), recruiting affiliates, reminding JV partners etc... the more time you can allow, the better.
I have "my baby" (that's just on paper right now), the biz that I anticipate to push to 8-figures ... it has roughly a 9 - 10 month pre-launch window with teaser content and various steps through out that year (won't be live until late 2011).
And you're probably well aware that when a new video game system, or movie, or operating system or even a limited edition line of shoes gets released... there are often MONTHS of buzz building being done.
It's ideal to give your JVs a heads up 2+ months out, a strong invitation/pitch 30-days out, a follow up 1-week prior and then your general aff/JV communications for that week prior/during/after the launch.
