1. How to find a hot market: An easy and quick way to accomplish this is to go to ClickBank, and determine the performance of each product, within the top 10 results of each category. Whichever products have a relatively high gravity (i.e 100+) would be safe to assume that this niche/market is one to explore.
2. There are great tools to use for keyword search. A free tool would be Googles Adwords:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
3. This requires time and experience. You may need to use an SEO company if you have no experience in this field. You could also take a look at MSN Loophole.
I hope this helps.
All the best,
Sean
Sean’s pretty much right on for how to find hot products in clickbank. Most product directories will list products in order from best setting to worst selling.
As far as keyword tools, Google’s tool is very good. If you have a budget Market Samurai is a great keyword building tool. I think they have a 30 day trial or something like that as well.
Beating the competition, if your speaking of PPC then you’re going to have to make sure you track everything, no exactly what keywords are driving the sales. Tracking is a real pain, but if you don’t track you will never beat the competition.
Hello again muragnk
The best free tools for market research are http://inventory.overture.com for keyword variations and search volume. And then use the google adwords tool to tell you more about competition and more about search volume. Then you just need to search google yourself using the keywords and find if there is a lot of competition.
Aim for markets with under 200,000 competitiors. Brush up on your seo skills and learn some ppc tactics and you should be ready to go. You can always outsource your product creation and website creation. Don't forget to only look for markets where people spend money, try to make a demographic of the typical person in that niche.

I think a great free (well free for 40 days) tool is Market Samurai..
http://www.marketsamurai.com/
This is great for keyword variations and search volumes. Not out of date like overture (yahoo) is.
You would have to buy it after 40 days, but you could get heck of a lot of work done for free in that time.
Go for it!
Cheers
I think that you should use the Google Keyword Tool suggested above and then break down your Niches into specific categories.
So if you were advertising "Baby Products" then break it down a bit to a specific brand like "Fisher Price", then break it down again into a specific "Fisher Price" product, like the "Fisher Price Papasan Cradle Swing".
So Baby Product > Fisher Price > Fisher Price Papasan Cradle Swing
The Exact Term "Fisher Price Papasan Cradle Swing" gets 40,000 searches a month. And the competition is pretty much close to None.
So what I would do next is actually purchase the Domain Name "FisherPricePapasanCradleSwing.com" and build a review site around it like a price comparison, Video reviews, Written reviews, and a good SEO article or two.
Here's a site I did just a couple of days ago you could use as an example: http://fisherpricepapasancradleswing.com
Once all that is complete then just start building some links "white hat" by submitting your sites to Social Bookmarking sites, and Directories. Then you should think about purchasing some text links on relevant sites. The more relevant links to your site then the better. And if you can get any legitimate .edu and .gov links, that's even better.
If you want to start advertising actually merchandise, it might be a little easier to start off with then Clickbank. You can sign up at http://cj.com or http://linkshare.com and start promoting for major companies like Toys R Us, Wal Mart, Target, FYI, pretty much any store you wanted to.
The payout isn't that much but you can find big niches with little competition with no problem at all, so SEO would be sweet for this.
Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps a bit.
Market Samurai RoCKS!
Give it a sweet 40 day Trial!
TO find a Hot Market look at what's already selling like HOT cakes right now...
1 place to go is CB Engine and search for the Top 10
Mrugank,
First of all, you need to go to ClickBank to find a hot niche. Go to their marketplace and you will be able to find several products to get ideas from. Some good ideas are in the following niches: "gas", "going green", "dog training", and certain "work at home" products. My advice to you is to find about 3-5 products in ClickBank that aren't oversaturated yet, and then setup a credible website that reviews these products.
For keywords, go ignore what you heard about the inventory.overture.com and Google keyword tool links previously listed. Overture tool doesn't even exist anymore, and the Google keyword tool only chooses words that they want you to pick, and can lead to you spending money on stupid keywords that you don't need, and it will only deflate your PPC campaign. A good tool to start with is http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/. They are free, but you can pay for one and get much more in depth results on keyword research.
To beat your competition, it's a little more complicated than just one paragraph. The most important things that I can tell you are the following:
1. get into a niche with little competiton (catch the "Wave" before it breaks)
2. differentiate yourself from your competiton (what do you offer that they don't)
3. make sure that you have identified a specific target market (maybe another market that your competitors can't / don't promote to)
I hope this helps!

I would agree that Market Samurai is a great keyword tool that also has several other applications.
The Google free keyword tool is very worthwhile as well and has recently been updated to provide 'actual numbers' of predicted searches for particular keywords rather than just a graph.

Philip, some awesome advice here. I was wondering where you'll go next with this site. I just did a phrase match search in Google on your keyphrases and noticed that your site is in position #58. Since the competition is slim, I would've expected you to rank higher but I'd guess you have some linke building to do. At what point do you decide whether this is a niche you'll continue to pursue or give it up? Is this based upon time or effort?Quote:

Now that it seems to have "calm down" a little bit, then I'll be working on Link building for this site.
I will always stay in the Baby Niche because since I had a baby myself, I realized that Babies are very profitable (in an IM sense) and no matter what, there will always, always be Babies ! (Oh and that's my Son on the Header Image :))
About The Current Rankings:
If you type in my keyword phrase in Google, you'll see that my article at Ezines is on page 2 ranked #18, so this really isn't that bad for now.
Monday I will start building some strong links to the site, and it will climb tremendously.
Some linking I will be doing is to about 700 directories, Social Bookmarking, Parenting Forums, and I have a few little tricks of my own to withstand a steady position.
I will keep you updated. If you want to add me on Skype, my ad is phil.money
Again, Thanks for the reply.

We created a neat little keyword research tool you can download for free. This tool will collect keywords and search volume from the free WordTracker and Keyword Discovery Source then you can check and see how many search engine competitors you have for each keyword. I hope this helps all those looking for a easy way to find keyword keywords and competition data.
You can learn about the free software at the link below, but you can use the other link to download the software directly without having to subscribe to our mailing list if you prefer.

Wow! Some really great information here about finding a hot market.
The key to finding profitable markets is to tap into existing demand.
There are two types of visitors I want coming to my site: either one that is searching for a specific product or one that is desperate to fix a problem they have.
Both of these visitors are essentially on the "verge" of buying. They're not just searching for information. They're looking for very specific product names or specific solutions to their problem.
Here are some examples:
The people searching for these phrases are desperate for a solution.
how to get rid of stretch marks
how to restore deleted files (very desperate market)
how to get your ex back
how to get rid of love handles
how to get rid of adware
You're looking for people who are desperate to solve their problem as quickly as possible.
The other keyword phrases I go after are specific product names.
Some examples include:
magic of making up
the truth about abs
fat loss 4 idiots
maclaren techno xt (specific stroller brand)
Get the idea!
These are "buyer keyword phrases" that convert quickly and easily to sales.
Here are some of the places I go to to find hot markets:
http://pulse.ebay.com/ - About 40% of all internet transactions occur on Ebay. Ebay Pulse shows you which products are the most popular. Plus, you can get a ton of long-tail keyword ideas by scrolling though the listings.
http://www.43things.com/zeitgeist/re..._popular_goals - Find out what people most want to accomplish in life. There are definitely some juicy markets here. Some of them include losing weight, falling in love (dating niche), learning spanish, traveling the world, quit smoking, learn photography, learn to play the piano, and start a business.
http://www.magazines.com - If you find a magazine for a particular topic, it's most likely a hot market as well. People that buy magazines are usually passionate about the topic they are reading about. And these are the best types of markets to tap into.
Amazon.com gives you access to instant market research. Click on your desired category and you'll find all of the products listed by popularity. So, for example, if you go to the treadmill section on Amazon, you'll find exactly which treadmills are selling the best. Plus, you can find a ton of long tail "buyer keyword phrases"
http://www.howtodothings.com/browse-all-categories - This site is overflowing with niche market ideas.
http://www.shopping.com/top_searches - The Shopping.com Consumer Demand Index is owned by eBay and one of the largest shopping networks online, making it an excellent research tool for finding out what sells.
They give the top 100 searches for each category. Talk some valuable
market data and keyword research.
You can do the same thing at Yahoo Shopping. If you go to the stroller section and scroll to the bottom of the page, you'll see a list of the "Top Searches" within that category. Click on the more link to see a list of over 300 of the top searches within the stroller category.
http://shopping.yahoo.com/t-Stroller...gCdT5W0kRpWr8F
Extremely valuable keyword data that comes straight from searches made on Yahoo Shopping.
Hope this helps!

Ditto, really got alot out of this thread.
This thread is great. I signed up only yesterday to the forum and am seeing very valuable advice already.
Is it true that the Google Keyword tool is skewed towards keywords that Google wants you to use? I had not heard that before and found the tool helpful in the past.
