How to get started in Health and Fitness Niche
Hi, My name is Dale Richards and i began doing affiliate marketing earlier this year but I now want to step it up a notch with my own stuff. My background is: I have been a Chiropractor for 14 years with emphasis on nutrition. My wife is a dietician with a masters degree in nutrition. We have alot of experience but I 'm not sure how to capitalize on that. Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: How to get started in Health and Fitness Niche
Hey Dale,
I have been working in the fitness niche for almost 7 months and we enjoyed our first 1000.00 day last week so it was a nice milestone.
The fitness industry works similarly to the IM niche in terms of creating opt ins etc.
The first and most important part is to nail down your niche within the niche. For example ours is MMA Fitness our three products include www.MMAFitnessTraining.com, www.SWATFitnessTraining.com and www.FitnessJiuJitsu.com.
You can have a look if you like
The more "micro" you get the more potential for money...the more general you get the more watered down you are and tend not to do nearly as well.
So if you haven't decided on your niche yet...that is your first and most critical step.
So you may choose to do something based on your expertise...but then take it deeper...Injury Prevention for MMA Fighters or Nutrition for Golfers...you get what I mean... Injury Prevention and Nutrition are both general but then you dial them in even further.
You can also decide to do affiliate marketing but based on your post it would seem you are hoping to creat a product.
So that's a starting point....I have lots more for you if you like but my batter is dying on the laptop so you can send me a PM or keep it in this thread for others to see.

Hey Dale,
I think you have some great experience to make an well targeted and profitable product.
I am an avid weight lifter and I constantly worry about injuries, whether past or present. I also have problems eating properly after a workout.
I suggest maybe something about "putting past injuries behind you" or "how to properly feed your muscles", Im just speaking off the top of my head, but you definitely have potential, and many jv opportunities even outside of the forum.
I honestly think you may even be able to make a physical course, which has a much higher perceived value, as an upsell, or a future addition.
Dont forget to gather and follow up with leads, and give them something free. Also make sure you have good info in your newsletter. I also think you would do well to have a few bonus ebooks, nothing too long, just a little extra info that could help people with similar problems to the one your main e-book solves.
I just thought of one, how about "foods to sped recovery" that could be very popular, and your backgrounds suggest you have experience in the field. Dont forget to mention your credentials on the sales and optin page.
Best of luck, and I would definitely by a product in this niche.

Re: How to get started in Health and Fitness Niche
Hi Dale,
You certainly do have great and useful experience as a chiropractor that could easily be used to make a product to sell online.
However, you will need to find a niche in your field of expertise that is "inch-wide and mile-deep". Nutrition seems like a good niche for chiropractor information, however, there may be even smaller niches. Use products such as MicroNicheFinder.com and KeywordElite.com to help you find these niche market and niche keywords.
Here are some ideas regarding a product to create:
- get interviewed (whether audio or video) and offer it for free to visitors on an opt-in page, present this as a sample of what people can find if they buy your ebook or other products
- a couple of titles: "Why 99% of Chiropractors Have Got It All Wrong With It Comes To Nutrition", "Why Your Chiropractor Is Wrong About Nutrition" and "The Single Most Important Thing Your Chiropractor Never Tells You"
Hope this assists you. Feel free to ask me any questions.
Good luck!
Regards,
Martin
Re: How to get started in Health and Fitness Niche
Hi Dale,
Since the two of you have a strong background in nutrition and it makes sense to capitalize on your strengths so it sounds like what you want to do is put together a survey on a site of yours and drive traffic there using PPC.
What you want to get people to answer for you is "What is your #1 nutrition question you have?" In exchange for their answer offer a FREE copy of your product once it is complete.
Once you have enough people respond to your online survey at your site it's time to go to work and answer that #1 question that keeps popping up and address some of the other concerns people have. The you KNOW that you have a direction to go after and also know get that you will get sales as long as the product is marketed properly.
Once you put together a product it will be help bring attention to both you and your wife, so then of course you would help position that product in all advertising/marketing you do for your practices - the public loves health care professionals that create their own books and products.
Re: How to get started in Health and Fitness Niche
Another way to do this is to join some health forums, (perhaps you are already part of some?) and give good content and answer questions. After a while, ask them what they would like to see answered in an information product. Same as above, what is the number one thing that they would want to know about.
If you offer your product, as said before, for free for those who give suggestions, you should have great answers.
I've done this for mine (In the IM niche) and I got a decent result.

Re: How to get started in Health and Fitness Niche
I'm not promoting this product although I've considered buying it (cos I need to get in shape myself).
If you haven't heard of this guy and you're in the niche, you're missing out big time: Adam Waters (Australian - based in Japan)
This has gotta be one of the biggest sellers in health and fitness online today, this youtube video has around 2.5 mil views and he's made a whole load of cash by selling his course online.

Re: How to get started in Health and Fitness Niche
Thank you for all of your suggestions. It seems a bit overwhelming at times so I have taken several weeks now to digest what each of you have written and I am slowly implementing it. I will develop a few of my own products ( and let you all know) and find the best affiliate products for my niche. I do, however, plan on promoting other types of products as well. If I did create physical products (dvd, cd, hardbook, etc) do you have suggestions on where to outsource to get them made. I am interested in perhaps also creating health type of bootcamps. Any help there would be appreciated.
